Arthritis in Dogs
It is interesting to find out that dogs and humans arthritis are quite similar and usually caused from the same sources. Arthritis is one of the oldest diseases and many dog's are afflicted with arthritis. For your dog's well being it is important to take these steps to help your dog/puppy to be as comfortable as possible and to alleviate your dogs/puppies arthritis symptoms. Ways to prevent Arthritis
Large dogs tend to develop arthritis as they age, but keep in mind there are many steps you can take to prevent this disease. First, start by making sure your dogs’ bed is comfortable.You may use an old mattress or soft couch for that purpose. You may also use soft foam rubber which is four inches thick, if you have a large dog/puppy it is best to have a bed that is at least a foot off the floor. This makes it much easier for your pet. It is wise to be careful not to overexert your dog/puppy; limit the amount of exercise. This means once around the block about three times daily is plenty.
Forms of Arthritis
There are many different forms of arthritis that a dog can be afflicted with. The main types include: Immune-mediated, Osteoarthritis, Idiopathic and Infective. Amazingly enough, one out of every five dogs in the U.S. have arthritis. The arthritis called Rheumatoid mainly occurs in Toy dogs or smaller breeds and are in between the age of five to six.
